How Wellness appointments work in HQ: the umbrella for every non-spay/neuter visit, from setup through booking to daily Patient Flow.

Wellness is HQ's appointment category for everything that is not a spay/neuter surgery. If the animal is not being spayed or neutered, the visit is scheduled as a Wellness appointment.

Within Wellness, you create your own appointment types, such as Vaccine Clinic, Dental Procedure, Basic Wellness, Mass Removal, Pickup, or Euthanasia. These types drive the Wellness Calendar, online booking, and Patient Flow.

Wellness vs. Spay/Neuter vs. Recheck

A Wellness appointment cannot include a spay or neuter as an add-on. If a client requests one, cancel the Wellness appointment and rebook it as an SN appointment with the other services attached.

Anesthetic vs. Non-Anesthetic

Every appointment is classified as Anesthetic or Non-Anesthetic. This classification controls how the visit moves through Patient Flow and how its services are categorized.

  • Anesthetic – The animal is anesthetized. Dentals, mass removals, and other surgical procedures are anesthetic.
  • Non-Anesthetic – No anesthesia is given. Vaccine clinics, wellness exams, sedated procedures, and pickups are the common examples.

Spay/neuter appointments are always Anesthetic. Each Wellness appointment type must be set to Anesthetic, Non-Anesthetic, or Disabled in Patient Flow under Settings > Wellness Settings. An individual appointment can be moved from Non-Anesthetic to Anesthetic during the visit without changing the type's setting; see Change an Individual Wellness Visit's Classification.
